August is “Back To School Month” – Let’s “Fall” back with healthy, safe and fun school lunches!

Worried about packing healthy lunches your kids will actually eat? You’re not alone. Many parents struggle to find nutritious, tasty options for school days. The good news? With smart shopping and a little creativity, you can pack lunches that are both healthy and fun.

1. Add Fruits & Veggies
Pack easy options like apples, grapes, carrots, and cucumbers. Include dips like hummus or low-fat dressing for variety.

2. Make Fruit Fun
Use yogurt or pudding as dips. Try fruit salads and mix textures like apples with oranges.

3. Choose Whole Grains
Go for whole-wheat bread, brown rice, and whole-grain snacks. Check labels—look for “whole” as the first ingredient and high fiber.

4. Pick 100% Juice
Avoid added sugars. Choose juices labeled “100% juice” only.

5. Include Calcium
Add low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese sticks, or calcium-fortified foods to support growing bones.

6. Keep Lunches Safe
Use insulated bags and ice packs for cold foods, thermoses for hot foods. Avoid reusing wraps or bags and toss perishable leftovers.
