National Child Health Day

October 1, 2025 by julie.ommert

Celebrate Child Health Day: Simple Steps for a Healthier Future

Eat Smart:
Take a day to focus on healthy eating habits. Show kids that nutritious food can be both delicious and fun! Offer a colorful variety of fruits like apples, strawberries, grapes, watermelon, bananas, or peaches. Add a bit of peanut butter to apple slices to introduce them to protein-rich snacks. Use the opportunity to explain how these foods provide the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow strong and stay energized—unlike many packaged snack options.

Get Outdoors:
Spending time outside is great for physical and mental health. Take advantage of the season’s cooler weather and beautiful scenery—visit a local park, forest preserve, botanical garden, or lake. Simple activities like collecting leaves or identifying trees can make outdoor time fun and educational.

Schedule Regular Check-Ups:
Preventive care is essential to your child’s overall well-being. Make sure they’re up to date on regular medical and dental check-ups to support their long-term health and development.

Global Handwashing Day – October 15  🧼🌍

Handwashing with soap is one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent illness and save lives. Global Handwashing Day is a reminder to make this simple habit a part of daily life.

Clean hands stop the spread of germs—at home, school, work, and everywhere in between.

Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
Key times: before eating, after using the restroom, after coughing/sneezing, and after outdoor play.
Teach kids to make it fun with songs or games.

Wash often. Wash well. Stay healthy.

Better Breakfast Month

September 2, 2025 by julie.ommert

September is Better Breakfast Month

According to a survey, 43% of people say convenience is the biggest factor in their breakfast choices.
With just a few small changes to your usual morning routine, you can create a healthy breakfast that works for your lifestyle.

Aim to “break the fast” with a meal that includes at least three food groups:

Protein or dairy
Fruit or vegetable
Grains—preferably whole grains

Choose options that are low in added sugars, sodium, and saturated fat for the best start to your day.
